Ethical Clothing with a Conscience...

At Tantamunay Shipibo Clothing,

Tantamunay stand in service of the cultural sustainability of the Shipibo-Konibo Villages and their cultural heritage

Tantamunay are guided by the Plant Spirits to share  the Ancestral Wisdom of connecting to Sacred Plant Medicines, Ayahuasca and to be of service to the Wisdom Keepers of these lineages, Shipibo Maestros.

We offer an online marketplace to the women of the Shipibo villages to enable them to stay in circles and to share their ancestral wisdom with their children as the weave.

Many who know Ayahuasca and the beautiful woven tapestries of the Ayahuasca visions  may not know of how many Shipibo Women struggle to support their families

This is our offering to the Shipibo-Konibo Village and we invite you to join in this offering, so that collectively we can all play our part in the cultural sustainability of the Ayahuasca Medicine Culture that has helped us all so much.

We apply Tribal Wisdom to everything we do, decisions are made in face to face circles with lots of time and love and holding of Sacred Sharing.

All of the sales of tapestries goes directly to the women upon their ancestral lands, we are merely a bridge. All the women who are a part of Tantamunay Shipibo Clothing are in agreement that the clothing part of our work is for the

continuation and preservation of their cultural heritage and our collective projects for the Shipibo Cultural Sustainability.

So that we may be strong women, Koshi Ainbo, individually and as a culture

Our clothing is all hand-made with traditional Shipibo embroideries; and the makers of these clothes are wonderful and empowered women from the jungles of the Amazon.

By supporting us, you are also supporting keeping Tribal wisdom and Medicine Wisdom alive in our collective heart, here and now

How Your Purchase Helps...

The founder of Tantamuany has been working and living with Shipibo Tribe for over 7 years and has spent long hours learning about the impact of the Modern World upon Tribal Culture.

Here are some of the ways that Shipibo Clothing can help:

To Stop Dissolution of Strong Family and Tribal Culture...

Traditionally, the Shipibo lived in harmonic balance with their Amazonian home, in FULL abundance, eating from the trees and rivers and building their Shelters amongst the trees.

That which the Jungle didn’t provide was bought with money earned by Shipibo women from the sale of their Shipibo Tapestries, Hand Embroidered with Ayahuasca Visions. Historically, everything was provided by the Jungle and all that was needed to be purchased was, salt, petrol and candles which was brought to the communities through a boat system where these items would be exchanged for plantains or Artisan Crafts. Now, with the impact of deforestation and river pollution, Shipibo tribes people are endeavoring to sell their Artisan crafts to pay for everything that life requires: food, shelter, childrens education etc

In the last 50 years Tribal Life has been impacted dramatically and recent global shifts have only deepened the wound.  Women are traveling further and further from their Jungle homes in search of a market for their artwork.  This results in more time away from their homes which in turn impacts upon the usual oral passing of Tribal Wisdom within family groups. Tantamunay are working together with the tribe to tackle this multidimensional issue of a culture in danger of being lost.

Our Aim is to bring sustainable work to the home of each tribal woman who wishes to support her family from artisan crafts. As such, this will return sustainability to tribal families in the current climate – by replacing what would have been gifted from the forest with finance – so that food can be bought easily, and the need to travel reduced whilst simultaneously dream weaving with the women ways to further preserve their beloved culture.

We work with many communities along the Ucayali River and we have set up a support system within Shipibo communities of women supporting women, many in more isolated communities struggle to find ways to sell their artisan crafts and we provide a platform to all communities by going directly to them on their ancestral lands, supported by the reimplementation of the boat system.

We can’t regrow the forests in a night or replenish the rivers with fish next to every community along the Ucayali but we can do our part, like the Hummingbird, to slow the impact of a changing world upon the Shipibo Way of Life.

Everything is connected and the separation arriving into the Shipibo Way of life is heartbreaking to observe, we aim to weave with unity, as this is the ancestral essence of this beautiful culture.

To Apply Tribal Wisdom to Busnest Ethics...

The Shipibo have always lived with a Tribal code which is being lost as the modern influence comes in. In the past, the tribal way would be about community and sharing. Any food gathered would be brought together and laid upon banana leaves and the whole tribe would eat together. If a large fish was caught, it would be divided by the number eating so that everyone would have an equal share and no one goes without.

Tantamunay are applying this tribal wisdom to our busnest ethics.

Our project works with different communities along the Ucayali river to ensure that the wehealth brought from our work is spread equally among the 56 Shipibo communities. As we grow, it is our dream that our clothing can bring sustainable income to any Shipibo woman who wishes to support her family through the time-honoured tradition of Artisan crafts.

Tantamunay Shipibo Clothing is only part of our work and everything we do is intimately connected. The Tribes of the Amazon have an innate relationship with their environment and those that still remember, observe this interconnectedness, live from it, honour it and can read the jungle. Tantamunay apply this to our service, everything is mutually beneficial in its nature to everyone connected to the Tantamunay Global Village.

To Preserve Shipibo Wisdom and Culture...

The Shipibo tribe have been affected by many things, including deforestation, river pollution, modern influences; all of which have occurred at a rapid pace over the last 50 years.

The passing down of Tribal Wisdom in its true essence, from its true origin, has been deeply impacted by our modern existence and values. Tantamunay are working together with the tribe on core issues impacting on the Shipibo way of life.

Our Current Community Projects:

  • Mythology Book project: We are working in Partnership with the Shipibo, the UGEL (Peruvian Education Department) and Illustrator Brad MacCloud to write a children’s book in collaboration with the Shipibo for the Shipibo, based upon the old Shipibo myths and legends. The book will serve as an educational tool in Shipibo Schools to reengage Shipibo Children with their heritage mythology,  in a fun and exciting way in response to the changes of engagement with the oral traditions.
  • Cultural Centre: The Shipibo are Masters of Ayahuasca and have a deep knowledge of the Sacred healing Plants and their uses. Tantamunay are working together with the tribe to raise funds to secure a cultural centre, which will be a centre of Education for all Shipibo Children to learn about their culture and a place where the sacred knowledge of the Ayahuasca lineage is preserved for the future generations of the Shipibo.
  • Supporting Medicine Wisdom Keepers: We stand in service of sharing the wisdom of the Shipibo Ancestral Medicine Lineages with the world. As Ayahuasca becomes known we hold the space for anyone wishing to learn about Ayahuasca to have the opportunity to connect to a Shipibo Maestro and learn, as we did directly from a Lineage Keeper.
